Choosing The Right Worktop

Understanding the difference in each worktop can help decide which worktop is best for you

Quartz

A resin bound mixture of natural quartz combined with glass or metallic flecks and pigments, creating a hard, non-porous surface ideal for worktops.

Quartz is resistant to staining & scratching, hygienic and has an easy to wipe surface. Quartz is great a mimicking granite worktops. The only downside to quartz is its not good for outside use (e.g. outdoor kitchens).

Granite

Formed naturally over millions of years, granite is one of the hardest and most durable stones available. It is hardwearing and difficult to scratch. Each piece is completely different to the other so every worktop is unique.

Granite adds value to your home, is resistant to cracking & breaking (can depend on the stone chosen), never the same as another and is a natural product.

Sintered Stone

Sintered stone worktops are man made created with 100% pure natural minerals. Its a synthetic blend of raw materials; porcelain, glass, and quartz. With the wonders of technology, the process which takes natural stone thousands of years to form is replicated in just a matter of hours to create a beautiful worktop.

Sintered stone is resistant to heat & freezing temperatures, is scratch & stain resistant, non porous, hygienic, lightweight and has a huge colour selection.

Timber

Timber worktops bring a warmth and homely feeling to a room.

We do not recommend timber to be used as a full kitchen worktop, especially next to sinks & hobs as they will stain, go mouldy, discolour very quickly & require a certain level of maintenance.

timber tops look beautiful on bedroom & living room furniture.

The contrast between a quartz kitchen worktop & a timber breakfast bar looks great. We also use timber as a butchers block on an island unit or trolley.

Our most popular timber tops we use are oak, walnut & wenge. Oak is probably one of the cheaper options out of the three and wenge is on the higher end but can all differ in price depending on length, thickness & how its finished.

Marble

Marble is a metamorphic stone. It is created from minerals and sedimentary rock to create a hard and durable product.

Marble is very strong but is porous and easily etched & stained. It’s a marmite type of worktop with customers as they either hate how its easily marked/scratched or they like how it adds character to the stone and over time it can look beautiful.

Marble is best used on areas that aren’t constantly being used, like dressing tables or side boards. If you want a marble effect in your kitchen but don’t want the hassle, quartz is a good alternative.
